Regent 7U & 8U

Program Overview:

  • Teams are either co-ed or all-girls
  • Teams play in an In-House League against Shorewood and other Regent teams
  • Game Format: 4V4 (no goalies; no refs)
  • Teams typically practice once during the week
  • Games are on Saturday/Sunday - held at Westside Parks
  • Teams are coached & managed by parent volunteers


Spring-only registration for 7U–8U players is offered by invitation only and is based on availability. Interested players must first join the waitlist, and any open spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • TIMELINE & FEES

    Registration Opens |  APRIL – JUNE

    • 7U & 8U register for the full playing year (Fall + Spring)
    • Registration Deadline:  June 15

    Team Formation |  LATE JUNE – JULY

    • Teams are formed and communicated to families
    • 7U & 8U: Team placement notifications are sent

    Fall Season |  LATE AUGUST – OCTOBER

    • Games and practices begin
    • Spring waitlist opens; if spots are available, waitlisted players will be contacted starting in November

    Winter / Off-Season |  NOVEMBER – APRIL

    Note: Winter programming is separate from regular Regent programming & optional when available

    • 7U–10U: Invite-only & based on availability

    Spring Season |  APRIL – EARLY JUNE

    • Games and practices begin

  • TEAM FORMATION

    Teams are formed by birthdate using the Seasonal Year (Aug. 1 – July 31).


    We take friend requests, school / grade, etc. into consideration whenever possible.


    We suggest a roster size of 7-9 players.


    Teams are either co-ed or all-girls


    There is a co-ed league and an all-girls league.


    ** Important - Teams MUST have at least 1 parent volunteer! **

  • UNIFORMS

    ~$80 uniform kit from Happy Tree Printing.


    Uniform kit includes:

    • Blue Jersey
    • Yellow Jersey
    • Shorts
    • Socks

    πŸ”Ή Uniform Fees are paid to Regent through PlayMetrics and are due at the time of registration

    πŸ”Ή If additional uniform pieces are ordered after registration, players will be invoiced via PlayMetrics

    πŸ”Ή Jersey numbers are assigned by the club

    PLAYERS SHOULD WEAR THE FOLLOWING GEAR TO EACH GAME:

    • Regent blue/yellow jersey
    • Soccer shorts
    • Shin guards
    • Soccer socks to cover shin guards
    • Rounded cleats or athletic shoes

    Regent's primary jersey color is BLUE; alternate jersey is YELLOW


    When playing a team of the same color, it is the HOME  team's responsibility to wear their alternate jersey

    • For Example: Regent VS Regent team; HOME team wears Yellow, AWAY team wears Blue

    You can find which team is designated as "Home" and "Away" on the game schedule.

  • GAMEDAY INFO

    In-House League - Regent & Shorewood


    GAME FORMAT:

    • 4V4 games (no goalies)
    • 2x 20-min. HALVES (4x 10-min quarters OK for 7U)
    • Size 3 ball
    • Games are on the weekends at local parks
    • No referees - volunteer coaches/parents help keep the game moving.
    • Coaches should be on one side of the field with their team. All spectators should be on the opposite side. We discourage spectators from standing behind the goals during play.

    RULES:

    • Throw-ins (kick-ins are OK for 7U - coaches should agree on which method they'll use prior to the start of the game)
    • Goal kicks & corner kicks
    • No offsides
    • No punting
    • No heading
    • No sliding - Players are encouraged to stay on their feet - if they fall down, they should get back up and resume play! Sliding is not safe play.

    Substitutions: Teams can sub on their own throw-in, either team’s goal kick or before kickoff (i.e., after a goal is scored)

    • 7U - Players should only sub during a break in play (i.e., not on the fly). 
    • 8U - Players should line up at the half-field line and wait to be called in the next time a team is eligible to make a substitution

  • SEASON & SCHEDULE

    The playing Year runs Fall to Spring (8/1 - 7/31)

    FALL Season: Late August - October

    SPRING Season: April - Early June


    PRACTICES:

    • Teams at this age typically have 1 weekday practice at a local park
    • Volunteer coaches/managers can request when/where they practice

    GAMES:

    • 8 games in the Fall; 6 games in the Spring
    • It is possible to have 2 games in one weekend

    All schedules will be added to PlayMetrics when they are available.

    • You can sync your PlayMetrics practice/game schedule to your phone's schedule if desired
  • COACHING

    Regent relies on parent volunteers to help coach and manage teams at this age.

    • We suggest 2-3 volunteers per team 
    • No experience is necessary to coach or manage
    • Coaching class is recommended for at least one volunteer
    • Regent provides equipment (cones, ball bag, pinnies, game ball) and a t-shirt!
    • Regent provides lesson plans, drills in PlayMetrics, as well as a guide to help volunteers throughout the season.
    • Volunteers can request when/where they practice.

    Volunteers are required to upload a photo, complete a background check and SafeSport training (Risk Management).
