Licenses Needed to Coach in Wisconsin Youth Soccer

Recreational Coaches in Wisconsin are required to have completed one grassroots course OR have one Y1 or Y2 certificate. All in-person coach clinics occur during the "off season."

Y1 CERTIFICATE

This is a free introduction to coaching soccer course, typically taken by coaches of Kinde through 8U teams.

Y2 CERTIFICATE

This free course builds on the Y1 course and is typically taken by coaches of 9U and 10U teams.

"INTRO TO GRASSROOTS COACHING"

This is a free on-line course that is a prerequisite to the grassroots courses.

Coaches working with Academy or "Competitive" teams are required to have completed TWO Grassroots Courses (one of them should be 9v9 or 11v11) OR hold an E license (E license refers to the previous system of coach licenses)

GRASSROOTS COURSES

There are four Grassroots courses labelled:

  • 4v4
  • 7v7
  • 9v9
  • 11v11
Grass Roots Education: Play, Practice, Play- read about the new grassroots changes to coaching education and why US Youth Soccer is embracing this approach.
