Referee Course Info

If you or anyone you know is 13 years old (or older), who wants to make money and give back to the game to help address the national, statewide and local referee shortage, WE NEED YOU!
This course is reimbursed by WYSA!

Here are instructions on how to sign up to become a referee!
Take the online portion while you're still on summer break and then the in-person portion on any one of these upcoming dates/locations in our area:

The Grassroots first-year referee course is a combination of independent online learning and live instruction (either in person or online).

  • The total instruction time is estimated at 12 hours: the independent learning content can be completed at your own pace, with the final four hours being the live session.  Click here for per game pay for referees in MAYSA leagues.  Plus, MAYSA offers a $50 bonus after you've refereed 5 MAYSA League games!
     
  • The total cost of the course is $70-100, depending on the referee's age.

NEW REFEREE COURSE DATES AVAILABLE!

WisRef will be hosting a 2024 New Referee Assignor course on Sunday, February 18 from 10:00am – 4:00pm at Neenah Middle School in Neenah, Wisconsin. There will be both an online component and in-person session to attend.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. U.S. Soccer requires an assignor to have held a referee license and be a minimum of 18 years old.
  2. WisRef’s policy is that a U.S. Soccer current year registered assignor will be given access to Ref Insight where the list of current year registered referees are housed.
    • A current year registered assignor must have a contract with a club for league games and/or tournaments
    • Ref Insight is the current assigning platform in Wisconsin
  3. WisRef requires mentoring by a current local Wisconsin registered assignor for a minimum of one season once registered.
  4. New assignors will sign a Wisconsin Assignor Code of Conduct/Ethics.

Any clubs interested in having someone complete the requirements to register as a Wisconsin Assignor, please forward this email to them so they can reply to sue@wisref.org with the following information:

  1. The name of the club(s) they will be contracting with, including the club president’s name and email.
  2. The name of the assignor they will be mentored by this upcoming spring soccer season.

After receiving that information, Sue will respond with details and then the following will be required:

    3. Complete the online component of the course. There are assignments U.S. Soccer requires them to complete and we ask for them to be completed by February 1.

    4. Attend the in-person session.
